Microsoft Project Server 2007 (PS 2007) is built on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0). So it offers project workspace using existing SharePoint Services functionality. Project Workspace is nothing but a seperate SharePoint site created for individual Project. This tight integration between Project Server and SharePoint services offers excellent functionality to manage project specific Issues, Risks and Deliverables within Project Workspace SharePoint site. You can also use the Project Workspace to store project specific documents and thus make it available to all team members remotely via Web interface. Just like PWA (Project Web Access), Project Workspace is a web based interface from a SharePoint site. You can provide list level and Item level security on individual Issues, Risk and Deliverables within a specific Project Workspace. Project Workspace security model is managed seperately from it's corresponding Project Security (managed by Project Server Instance). When a Poject is created / uploaded onto the Project Server, user is displayed with an option to create a Project Workspace. By default all Project Members have access to Project Workspace as they have been addedd automatically to the user list onto the SharePoint site. Project Workspace site is created within the same site collection where the parent Project Web Access (PWA) site ic created. It shares the common topology, administration and content database.
